To begin, go to the profile of the senior manager requiring temporary cover. From the right-hand menu, select Temporary Cover.
Start Temporary Cover
On the next screen, select Start Temporary Cover. If this option is greyed out, it may be because the individual's Statement of Responsibilities is either missing or still in draft status. Ensure the statement is live before proceeding.
Fill in Temporary Cover Details
Enter the required details:
- Start date
- Expected end date
- Temporary cover reason (mandatory)

SMF Assignment
Next choose the relevant SMFs to be covered and specify who will cover them. If the individual you want to assign does not appear in the list, select Add Other Individuals from the top right.

Assign Direct Report Coverage
On the next page, indicate if direct reports need to be covered.

Reviewers
Next, proceed to the reviewer page, where you can assign a reviewer for each individual. Assigning a reviewer is optional but recommended for oversight.

Review and Confirm
The summary page will display the temporary cover details for review. Confirm the information is accurate.

Before the temporary cover can start, all individuals involved will need to be notified for their confirmation using the Notify individuals button. Alternatively, if any individuals are absent or do not require approval, use the flag icon next to their name to mark them as absent.

You will be prompted to provide a sign-off reason for these cases.

Once all individuals have approved or been marked as absent, select Confirm Temporary Cover. At this point, you will be required to re-enter the start and expected end dates.

Post-Confirmation Options
After the temporary cover is in place, additional options become available from the right-hand menu:
- View Temporary Cover Certificate
- Record Discussion Points
- Add Documentation
- Start Hand Back
- Extend End Date
